I bought 5 of these for an outdoor streetlamp I rebuilt. They’re not rated for outdoors, but the socket is dried in, so we’ll see how they do with cold and hot weather.

But they’re really cool. They were easy to connect to the wifi. I’ve seen frustration that they only use the 2.4G wifi frequency, but I see this as a smart feature… 2.4 goes through walls and covers better distance. Devices like these don’t need the faster 5G speeds. These are working out by the street about 100′ from my indoor router and 2 walls, including a brick outer wall. No connection issues at all.

It was easy to find a nice warm light setting and apply it to all of the bulbs as a group. Scheduled the lights to come on around dusk and go off a couple hours later.

During holidays, we’ll surprise (annoy?) neighbors with seasonal colors. Red, white, blue for July 4, orange for Halloween, and flashing rainbows for party night. 🙂

The leftover 6th bulb is going indoors on a schedule to replace one of those lamp timers.

I have learned that not all smart LED bulbs are the same, nor are the apps that control them. These bulbs are controlled using the Smart Life App. I was initially pleased by this because I already had an outlet that uses the same app. Less apps to worry about! However, I am disappointed with the app’s control of the lights. While you can schedule the light to turn on or off, you can’t control the color and brightness at the time of a scheduled turn on. It will turn the lights on with whatever color and brightness the lights were set to last. Also, if you create a group of multiple lights, you pretty much have to schedule all the lights to turn on and off at the same time, or else the app gets confused and no longer treats them as a group. Also, you don’t seem to be able to use the scene or music mode with a group of lights, only with an individual light.

The other issue I have, and I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the bulbs themselves or with the app, is that while they can supposedly be set to any color, it’s really difficult, if not impossible, to get them to be certain colors. When you choose the darkest blue on the color wheel, the light is more of a purple, even heading toward magenta. And I have not been able to get a bright green color either.

I do like that the bulbs are nice and bright, but this is not enough to make up for the flaws in the app.

Customer Questions & Answers

What brand is this bulb
Answer: This is a Novostella a19 Model SQP A6007-A

Will these work with ifttt?
Answer: No motion detection…

why do I get unresponsive like almost every day?
Answer:

Make sure you set it up correctly using the 2.4ghz internet. Then when done move back to your normal internet connection. I’ve had these bulbs for awhile now in my living room and they work everytime. Also you can check to see if there is some interference messing with it. If that doesn’t work just get replacement bulb??

Can these bulbs be dimmed using Alexa/Echo?
Answer: Hello, You can adjust the brightness with the app ??smart life??, you also can voice control with Alexa or google home, example “Alexa, adjust the bulb to 70% brightness”, so the bulb will be 70% brightness.”
