GE LED+ Backup Battery Light Bulb
GE LED+ Backup Battery Light Bulb

Description

Never worry when the power goes out with battery light bulbs: These self-charging emergency light bulbs allow you to keep a light on even when the power is off and can function similarly to a flashlight in emergency situations.

I see some reviews saying this bulb does not work as specified – that it stays on even when the lamp is turned off. I suspect that has more to do with following the instructions than the bulb itself (although it’s possible some folks got defective bulbs). Let me explain:

The instructions tell you to leave the bulb on for 10 hours when you first get it. That??s not just to charge it ?C no battery this small takes 10 hours to charge. I suspect the bulb is figuring out the length of the wiring it is connected to ?C resistance, capacitance, whatever. When it figures that out it knows the difference between the lamp cord or light switch and a power failure.

In my case, after charging it for 10 hours, when I turned the lamp off the bulb went out. I turned it back on and unplugged the lamp and it went out. But when I turned it back on and flipped the circuit breaker, it stayed on as that was farther away and simulated a power failure. So it worked for me and I suspect it will work for you.

One minor thing that may apply to some people is that the portion of the bulb that lights up is closer to the top of the bulb than usual. If you look at my photos, the first shows a banker??s style desk lamp with a standard LED bulb in it. The second shows it with this bulb in it and you can see that the light is concentrated across half the lamp and not evenly disbursed. The third is in power failure mode, much dimmer and the same dispersion issue. If you are orienting the bulb vertically it won??t be an issue but I wanted to point this out.

A handy bulb to have in a lamp somewhere in case you have a power failure. I liked the simplicity and the peace of mind.

I followed the instructions and kept the bulbs on for 24 hours straight, but when you cut off the light switch, the bulbs flash like emergency lights. The only way to stop the flashing is to keep the light switch cut on all the time. Doesn’t make sense!
I read a lot of reviews and everyone said it’s important to let them charge at least 10 hours before using, and I let them charge 24 hours so I can only say at this point these bulbs don’t work as advertised!

Customer Questions & Answers

Do any of them produce more lumenss? I have 2 from lowes and they are very dim?
Answer: Itsa yes and a no it depends on you It??s dem with my lamp shade on we was with lights for three days and I removed the shad from my lamp and it got brighter

After the initial charging period, how long/often does the lamp need to be on to keep the bulb charged?
Answer: The bulb will need to be charged roughly once a year, if not used during that time period. If used as a flash light, it will shorten the charge left.

I have a normal lamp in the middle of the room, but it is not plugged into a power source. if i’ve charged the bulb, will it work in that lamp?
Answer:

If the bulb is charged it will work in that lamp. You will have to manually turn the bulb on and off from flashlight mode for it to work, the lamp controls will not power it on and off. You will also need to place some wax paper between the bulb and the contact point in the lamp socket or your bulb will stay on all the??

Would this work in a porch light with a dusk-dawn light sensor? I??d want light only at night during a power outage.
Answer: No, this bulb cannot work on any sensors or dimmers, only standard on/off switches.
