Description

Top Positive Review

So these Leds have 2x strips connected to the controller. There are 15 segmented sections, which can be controlled. Keep in mind that it’s one section shared by 2 strings of leds. So section 1-15 is duplicated on the second 16.4″ string. If you plan on wrapping the leds around something, then your controller should be place in the middle. Unless you want to solder wires to the connectors to extend starting points.

The brightness is visible, and not super bright. The cool white, and warm white functions aren’t 100% true but will get the job done.

Over all decent product for the price, they do run fairly cool as compared to some other led light strips.

Top Critical Review

First time buying a Govee product. For context I was comparing this set of RGBIC strips to Merkury’s Advanced LED Strip sold at Walmart to use in my office.

-Pros
-For 30ish dollars. Its really not a bad deal.
Fantastically bright, compared to Merkury’s Advanced LED Strip
Easy Setup and control. So far I have had zero issues implementing it into my home.
Good responsive music mode.

-Cons
– Whites/ Very light colors are really inaccurate.
-No weather/ water protection. Unlike Merkury’s Advanced LED Strip that was sealed in a clear rubber these are just bear LED strip
-No Diffusion. Im going to doc any LED strip that refuses to do that. However the light does diffuse pretty well about 2-3 inches from a surface so hiding it behind things works well.
-Cannot be cut or soldered. Sort of. TECHNICALLY you can still shorten the LED strip by slicing at the copper connectors. HOWEVER the RGB controller still assumes its working with the full length so some effects will look odd or incomplete. unless of course you resoldered them back together. Something Merkury did in their app was allow the user to manually set the LED strip length so the controller can use smaller LED groups to maintain the same effects.
-Cannot control LED groups smaller than 9. Even though there is a controller every 3 LED’s the app will only let you manually color every set of 9 unless its playing a scene.
-Many of the scenes are too fast, flashy, and annoying to be enjoyable You can make your own but slowing them down in the Scene maker just has them run in slow motion rather than having the scene run slower with a better color/motion change gradient

A Pro and Con.
The Govee App.

Not gonna lie, the app gives me mixed feelings. While I feel it is definitely better than Merkury’s I still feel it has a long way to go before I give it my approval.

When compared to the Geeni app Merkury uses, govee’s definitely gives more control and better scenes but man its still very lacking for me. Id love to be able to edit premade scenes to the colors id like. Id love to be able to slow down scenes from being a epileptic seizure risk to something enjoyable without it going into a slow motion choppy mess.

Less tiktok style social media sharing and more Nanoleaf scene search, sharing and saving. Honestly. I dont care about your videos unless I can see your scene, go ok that’s cool, and save it to my app.

Customer Questions & Answers

Do these have usb connection? Or only the connector to plug in to the wall? I??m trying to plug directly into my tv rather than an extension cord.
Answer: The 16.4ft Govee RGBIC Alexa strip light comes with a connector to plug into the wall. It does not support a USB connection.

If you cut the strip at the copper pads and solder jumper wires to reconnect the ends, will the segment controls still work?
Answer: They make connectors just for that application. They help with all sorts of different ideas. Makes it easier than soldering the strips.

Can you customize each zone?
Answer:

Sort of, I can’t find any way to change the customization between each leg of LEDs. The product ships with 2 strands of LEDs, each plug into the base unit (power supply and controller) and from everything I can find both legs have to have the same programming. It would be very nice if the two strands could have diffe??
