I bought three of the exact same bulb, Kasa KL130, but received two different versions. Two are hardware version 2.0, and one is hardware version 1.0. Both state are ??KL130.?? This was unexpected, as there is no mention of two different versions in the product description. While both versions work, there are notable differences when using them side-by-side, which make them unfeasible if ordering more than one.

The bulb versions are cosmetically and operationally different. Version 1.0 has a black stripe, is 800 lumens, uses 10.5 watts, and has a current firmware of 1.8.11. Version 2.0 has a white stripe, is 850 lumens, uses 9.5 watts, and has a current firmware of 1.0.9. So version 1.0 is not as bright as version 2.0 at maximum. I??ve attached photos of the boxes showing the clear differences even from the packaging (which are different sizes and show distinct photos/product info).

In addition to the cosmetic and luminosity difference, version 1.0 is slower to respond to commands than version 2.0, which is very problematic because I have the three bulbs on the same strip. The two version 2.0 bulbs are quick to respond together, while the version 1.0 bulb has a noticeable delay for the same command.

I would return the version 1.0 bulb but would have no idea which version it would be replaced with. I see that other reviewers have posted about the same issue. I’ve reached out to Kasa and will update my review if I hear back and the matter is resolved. Hopefully, I can get another version 2.0 bulb, so that I have three identical bulbs.

Bottom line, there are two versions of the same bulb for sale that are incorrectly marketed as one, and which look, act, and respond differently.

Customer Questions & Answers

My wifi no longer sees the Kasa network for the bulbs I currently have. Will these connect without issue? iphone seems to have put restrictions on
Answer: as far as I know there aren??t any restrictions. have you tried resetting the bulbs? you may have to delete them and then reinstall them which would probably include unscrewing them in order to restart the setup process.

can I timer for colors? like set up to turn on in white and by 10 pm turn to purple ?
Answer: Yes- you can set the Presets in the Kasa app to the colors you want for the bulb and then set up a schedule to turn them on when you want. To do that tap the bulb you want to schedule in the Kasa app and see the buttons for presets and schedule at the bottom of the page.

Can I use this bulb with a lamp which has a dimmer switch ?
Answer: Yes, you can. However you need to set the dimmer at its max intensity and not used it to dimmer the light. You still can dimmer the light but ussing the Kasa app or Alexa.

Can you use these to filter out blue light?
Answer: Yes you can, on the app set the bulbs to 2700 to 3500 kelvin. At that setting there is no blue light at all. You can also set the bulb to circadian mode, it will follow the sun, in the morning it will be pure white no blue light filtering and as the day progress it will start to filter the blue light out.

Can i set a defined temperature for these bulbs(ex 2700k)? or do i have to choose from the various shades of white on a color matrix?
Answer:

You can set the color temperatures from 2500K to 9000K, directly from the Kasa White panel.

The think I hope they add is to be able to Alias color/temperature and brightness settings so that I could define NIGHT as say 2217 k, and PINK as 50% red, 50% yellow, at 10% brightness, and then use in Alexa commands. It ma??
