I have been using these for about a year and what started as 2 bulbs as an experiment has become the norm for every light fixture in my house.
To begin – the price is reasonable for what they can accomplish and what’s required. My introduction was a purchase that included a few of these and a few other name brands. What stood out is that these do not require a HUB but are still compatible with Alexa. Once I found they were compatible with Alexa, I could use them in combination with motion sensors and music. I set up a routine that changed the colors to a genre of music when I spoke a command. The next step in evolution was finding out they are compatible with my RING doorbell motion sensor – so now my porchlight comes on and turns off after a set timer. An unintended bonus has been that my electric bills have decreased because not only are they LED’s, but between the timers and motion detectors, I no longer worry about lights being left on.
The app provides additional security because I can control these lights wherever there is an internet signal to my phone. For example, I work on a ship where the wifi speed is about 750 kbps – 1 mbps (that means I can send email and watch a 3 min YouTube video after 10 mins) and I was able to show my co-workers I could mess with my husband back home. The latest functionality I have found to be paramount is for an elderly grandmother- now she can call out to Alexa to turn her lights on before she gets out of bed (so she can see and avoid tripping over anything she might have forgotten was on the floor). I am a huge fan of tech – and these bulbs are easy, economical and slick.

Tried one bulb when I first got my order on 1/9/20. Was a little more tricky in the set up, but once functioning worked fine. Worked ok with the Alexia voice command. SO TODAY 2/23/20 I decided I had the time and decide to hooked the addition 7 lights up. Used a lamp closer to the wifi so it was easier to connect. Things went well until I moved the light bulb to the lamp in the living room. The light bulb caught fire and so did the lamp.

Final choice would be,no I do not recommend these light bulbs without a fire department standing by for safety and fire control. I will attempt to send them back even thou I dont have the outter box for the four bulb. And I will be missing one of my favorite lamps forever.

Customer Questions & Answers

Is music sync not a function anymore or what? I recently bought this product and was excited to sync up my music as advertised…
Answer:

If it??s a shared public router, the mic and music will not be available as the bulb is being identified as remotely controlled. When it is locally controlled (private router) and you are near your router, the mic and music function are available.

Can you check if the Globe is blue in device settings? Go into the Ma??

Will these work if my light switch is dimmable?
Answer:

Smart bulbs require full power to send and receive WiFi and Bluetooth signals. If the lamp is dimmed at the main power source, the smart bulb will not work. MagicLight bulbs require full power at all times, and all dimming should be done through the app or voice control (WiFi and Mesh products only). If you must use??

Is there a way to pair this device with a smartphone to visually alert a hearing impaired customer to an incoming call or text?
Answer: There might be a way through Ifttt contact support @ support@magiclightbulbs.com
