I am LOVING this bulb. I put this in my dimmable pendant light and set the colors into my “presets” and can easily swap between the best colors for photos, night vision, puzzles on the coffee table, and the auto. I can tell Google to turn it on, off, and dim it, or even ask it to be a different color (don’t know if I can swap between presets, but it changes between main colors i.e. red blue etc.) Please see the attached photos of me under my new presets & auto. I love kasa smart merch, it’s so easy to control by voice or widget buttons on my phone screen. I have an outlet, power strip, this light, and have also purchased a couple light switches. With my ecobee thermostat upgrade coming, I can use Alexa or Google or siri to turn on and off smart devices and adjust temp, so I’m glad I tried out the lightbulb. Soon I won’t ever have to walk around in the dark when I get up to pee, or trip over my black dog at night with the red light option that won’t blind me either.

Top Critical Review

One feature I thought made these worth a try: Have my two bulbs gradually turn on in the bedroom to wake me in the morning. Doing that is quite a tedious process. Even if you can get it working from the Kasa app, getting Alexa to do it required creating a routine (a sequence of steps) for each bulb: tell each bulb to go to 1%, tell each bulb to go to the desired color, tell each bulb to start ramping up. I didn’t see a way to do it using Siri.

More details:
Review is true as of May 2021… (functionality will change along with the app that must be used with the bulbs)
My background is programming and industrial controls… I have plenty of experience working with networking and programmable things…

These bulbs do not live up to the promises surrounding home automation. They can kind of do much of what is claimed, but none of it was simple enough for a casual user to set up. I didn’t have lots of trouble getting Alexa talking to them (with limited functionality), but it was way too cumbersome.

The process to to get them function with an Apple device is even worse. All Siri can do is tell the Kasa app to go to a certain preset. You will quickly grow weary of trying to make anything useful happen through Siri. In the Kasa app, creating a preset is surprisingly difficult.
