After buying four, I bought four more. Then four more, then eight more. And here we are with every single light in the house being Alexa enabled multi-color dimmable LEDs. Not one of my lightbulbs has failed yet. The smartlife app makes them easy to connect, so long as you don’t use the EZ feature. Tap EZ, switch to AP mode, and flick the new bulb on and off 6 times. Slow blink and then, bam, you’re connected. The last eight lighbulbs purchased where installed in less than 30 seconds per bulb. The versatility of these things is unmatched. Again, take your time, set up zones, rooms, modes, etc. It’s like setting up surround sound — if you do it right one time, your life is just better. Now, the house is fully automated and life is easier. Plus, these are brighter than similar bulbs in the same and higher price point. Again, strongly recommend Smart Life app integration versus other apps with other bulbs.

These bulbs will be used outdoors (but in sealed fixtures protected from rain) , they are lights that line my driveway, a total of 11 bulbs.
I ordered a 4 pack to test and evaluate the bulbs before committing to all 11. The reason for this is simple, I already have an automated lighting system (Insteon) and the switch (on/off, not a dimmer) that controls the driveway lights is controlled in part by an automated schedule and a motion sensor for after hours activity. Basically if someone walks or drives into my driveway the lights come on and stay on for 5 minutes, if you walk out my front door the lights will also come on via the sensor and light your way.
I wanted to be able to set different scenes for everyday use, parties, special events etc. I am still playing with the app, but it looks as if I can do what I want and then some.
Since the Insteon system will be cutting power to the bulbs when not being used (especially during daylight hours), what I needed to know was…
#1. will the bulbs default to their last setting?
#2. will they re-connect to wifi automatically?
#3. If they are turned off in the app and then the switch they are connected to also gets shut off, and then later turned back on, will they come on and will they still return to their last known state?
The answer to all 3 questions is yes! and that is exactly what I had hope they would do!!
I set them up ( which was quite easy BTW) last night, played around with them for about an hour, checking out modes and settings in the app, which is also very intuitive. Then shut off the switch , cutting off their power completely. About 8 hours later I turned the power back on, the bulbs all came on to the last setting and they reconnected to my wifi within a few seconds.
The only thing I noticed was a slight delay between the time I applied power and when they produced light, the delay was probably just under a second, not an issue for me.
Bulbs like this will work best when powered by an unswitched circuit. But most will be installed in circuits that have a switch (on/off only , do not connect these to a dimmer), the really cool thing is if you turn off the bulbs in the app and then turn off the switch cutting their power completely, you would think that when you turned the switch back on the lights the lights would stay off ( some cheaper brands do), but these come back on as any normal bulb would, and to their last selected setting! Meaning, when you hit the switch you will have light regardless of what you did in the app.
Aside from a slight delay, I couldn’t find anything about these bulbs I didnt like, and even the delay isn’t enough to lower my rating. I will be ordering the rest of the bulbs today. Time will tell how well these hold up and if there are any issues, I will update this review.
Oh yeah, they are plenty bright too!!
UPDATE June 22 2021, 6 of the 11 bulbs have now failed in only 8 months! Sorry but that’s a deal breaker! did not even last a year, very disappointing and will drop from 5 stars to 1.
yeah, they were great when hey worked but they didn’t work for very long!
