These bulbs really do work well, AFTER you figure out how to make them work. It took me several hours of searching, and trial and error to get this connected to my Alexa app (which is why I got the bulbs in the first place). So here’s some instructions for anybody else struggling (these can also be used to connect to Google Assist).

– Do your regular setup using the instructions, with the AiDot app. If you have multiple bulbs be sure you edit the name to give them something easier to remember and use to control with Alexa (I used my kids names for their bedroom lights)
– After you have connected your bulb to that app, you actually do your connection to Alexa THROUGH THIS APP
– Stay in the AiDot app, go to the Aidotor menu at the bottom of your screen. This will take hours to your profile
– Go to Settings
– Go to Third Party Services
– Choose either Alexa or Google Assist (there’s a 3rd option for SmartThings if you have that or know what that is)
– Put in your Alexa (Google) username and password to connect the two accounts.
– This enables the AiDot skill within Alexa. It’s misleading because for the longest time I was looking for an Orein skill. Its NOT Orein, the skill is AiDot.

Once you are connected, use your nearest Alexa device and address it using the name you assigned in the AiDot app. You can tell it to turn the light on or off, change colors, dim the bulb etc.

I gave it 4 stars because all of this information should have been available in THEIR pamphlet. ??

Love the actual lightbulb, works well and lots of cool features. The app that you use to control it? Lame at best.

Here are the issues:
1. Android app doesn’t work for setup at all. Once you have things set up you can use it to turn it off and on and do presets, but that’s about it. Thank God I also have an iPad. The rest of the setup notes listed below apply to the iPad app.

2. You’re supposed to be able to set up zones, for different rooms. But all that’s available to select is living room. The one I’m using so far is in the bedroom, so that’s not ideal. Am planning to swap the rest out as the old lamps burn out so we’ll see what happens when I start putting them in other rooms, but so far it looks like they’re all going to be marked as living room no matter where they are.

3. There are preset looks, and there’s a smart function where you can put things on a timer, but so far as I can figure out there’s no way to combine the two.

4. Once you set a smart look you can’t edit it or delete it. It says you can edit it, but the edits don’t actually do anything. The first smart look I set up I fought with for about a week and nothing I did ever changed the way it looked. I could change the time, but that’s about it. I started over and the new one works better, but the old one will be there forever because there’s no way to delete it.

5. The “gradual” timer setting where it’s supposed to bring the light up over time isn’t a nice gradual fade up, it’s an incremental step up. And it’s not so gradual. I have mine set to 30 minutes and it takes about 2 to get to full on.

Love the concept. Don’t like the app much.
