I scoffed at the hue lamps for a long time, but I have to admit, I love these stupid, expensive things. I use these coupled with a motion sensor in our bathroom, controlled via smartthings, and having the lights fade on automatically to an appropriately gentle temperature and level when you stumble into the room in the middle of the night is a quiet (sleepy) joy. It’s particularly nice to have color temperature control over something like the lights over the vanity, as sometimes you want to see your face veeery well, and sometimes… you don’t. Easy to use, easy to set up, compatible with everything – there’s a reason Hue has hung on to the top spot on a lot of reviews even as others roll out into the smart light market. Highly recommend, especially if you’re fussy about the color quality of your light.

After 11 months one of the lights lost the ability the set ambiance color, it was 100% bright white or off. After 2 emails to Philips they agreed to replace it under warranty, however it??s been 5 weeks and several emails where they states that they??re working on the replacment, l still have not received.

If I have these bulbs on a regular wired switch and turn it off and back on, at what brightness do the bulbs default to?

There’s been an update to the Hue software that allows changing the power loss setting from “default on 2700k” to “last state”. “Last State” will remain off even after a power loss, so it’s great for if there’s a power loss during a storm in the middle of the night, not so great if you lose the remote. I find I prefer ??

Does the new Echo allow this to be used without the Hue bridge?
Answer: The Echo Plus will allow you to use without the Phillips Hue Bridge.
